New name to reflect shifting of focus
Sunday, April 1. 2012

I've been struggling with this decision for months and I've finally decided to pull the trigger. PokerRPG is now known as PokermonRPG and will now integrate Pokemon into the gameplay experience. I've been able to secure exclusive poker licensing rights from Nintendo to use all of the characters in the game. You will now be required to battle other players at the table for your seat at tournaments, and if you aren't able to catch them all, you lose your buy-in. I've also secured the rights to an exclusive new Pokemon known as the Pokerchu, you'll need more than your average Pokerball to catch this little one's bluff!

I will have internet access off and on every day, but expect delays in responses to messages and tickets. I expect to come back to come back from the conference motivated and ready to start working on some awesome new things in the game!

Important Changes - Please Read
Tuesday, February 28. 2012

Summary

  • Scheduled downtime @ 5:00AM, Monday, March 5

  • You will now login through the GoldFire Network with your e-mail address instead of username

  • Points will be converted into GoldFire Gold

  • A toolbar with various new features will run along the bottom of your screen

Details

For the last several months I've been working on a new games platform that connects the PokerRPG and BC Wars communities under what is now called the GoldFire Network (read more about it here). GFN has been in private beta testing for about a month now, and will go live for everyone around 5:00AM on Monday, March 5. There could be an hour or more of downtime while I integrate the changes into the site (but I"ll try my best to keep it to less than that).

The first major change is how you login. You will now login to PokerRPG through your GoldFire Network account, similar to how you would login to a site using your Facebook account (don't worry, this doesn't require nor will it be like Facebook). GoldFire Network accounts were created for all of you automatically, which you will login to with the e-mail and password you used on PokerRPG (if you also have a BC Wars account and your PokerRPG information isn't working, try using your BC Wars info). When you come to PokerRPG after the update, you will either be redirected to the GoldFire Network to login or you will see a "Login with GoldFire Network" button on the front page.

The second major change is with Points. Points are getting converted into a new universal premium virtual currency called GoldFire Gold, which can be used on PokerRPG and BC Wars. The conversion of Points to GoldFire Gold is 1:1, and if you have a BC Wars account, your Points will be combined with the Gold you have there (though the conversion is setup a little differently). You will still be able to use GoldFire Gold in the same way that you currently use Points.

The final big change is that there will now be a small toolbar going along the bottom of your screen. This toolbar gives you access to your GoldFire Network profile, PokerRPG, BC Wars, GoldFire Gold, your online friends list and a friend-to-friend chat function. You will also receive instant achievement notifications at the top of the screen as well as some other cool little built-in features. All interactions on the toolbar are in real-time, which will be the base technology used in upgrading things like the poker tables in the near future (one of the reasons all of this has taken so long to complete is that I've been learning many new technologies along the way that will greatly benefit PokerRPG down the road).

One of the main goals of all of this is to separate the non-game functions from the game itself, so that you can focus on having fun in the game and with the community at large. Eventually other currently in-game features like notices and messages will be moved onto the GoldFire Network as well, but I'm taking this one step at a time to try and make the transition as smooth as possible. All of these features have been tested extensively over the past month with a small group of beta testers, but if you do encounter any issues please submit a support ticket and I'll get it taken care of as quickly as possible.

IMPORTANT: Some of you may have an issue logging into your account and won't be able to submit a support ticket (99% of you should have no issues). If this happens, please send an e-mail to james33@pokerrpg.com.
